Sarasota, FL. – June 2014 – Tiny Hands Foundation, a non-profit foundation benefiting underprivileged children and families in Sarasota & Manatee Counties, has announced it is launching a new initiative; the Back-to-School Backpack Brigade.
The Tiny Hands Foundation, founded by Sarasota businessman and philanthropist Rod Khleif in 2001, is best known for their Annual Holiday Basket Brigade. Each year the foundation, along with the assistance of hundreds of friends, donors, and community volunteers prepare and deliver thousands of holiday gift baskets filled with food and Christmas toys to area families in need. Since 2001, the foundation has delivered holiday gift baskets to over 20,000 underprivileged children and families throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties.
On August 2, 2014, at the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota, the Tiny Hands Foundation along with the assistance of hundreds of friends, donors, and volunteers will attempt to put together 1500 new backpacks filled with school supplies to be given away to our community’s children in need.
“One in five children in our community is growing up beneath the poverty level. Families shouldn’t have to struggle financially so that their children can be prepared to participate in their education. Children should not have to go without the supplies they need to succeed in school. Many of the families we’re helping are single parent families with multiple children: back-to-school expenses can be overwhelming for a family that is already struggling to make ends meet. If by providing a new backpack and school supplies, we can make a difference in one child’s life to help inspire a better future for him or her, it will make this worthwhile”, says Khleif.
