After four years as an active member of the Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America, Kevin Gofron announces that he is not going anywhere. The Flat-Coated Retriever Society is the American Kennel Club organization that revolves around Flat-Coated Retrievers, the dog breed of which Kevin Gofron is a huge fan.
Kevin Gofron’s interest in the Flat-Coated Retriever Society is based not only on his love for the breed, but for the strong rescue and referral work that the Society does. While the Flat-Coated Retriever Society focuses largely on maintaining the standards of the breed for the purpose of competitions, the Society also keeps a record of resources for health problems that these dogs may face. For Kevin Gofron, these resources are invaluable, but even more important is the aforementioned rescue program.
“The Flat-Coated Retriever Society works hard to make sure that dogs have a home,” comments Kevin Gofron. “We’re dog people. We love animals, and we hate to see a dog of this breed holed up in a shelter or abandoned in an emergency situation.” The Society works hard to rehabilitate these dogs to find each of them a loving home.
“It is so sad to me that anyone would think of getting rid of their Flat-Coat dog,” says Kevin Gofron. “They are truly lovely dogs, easy to train, and they really live up to their names – they’ll really retrieve anything!” Because the Flat-Coated Retriever was originally bred to retrieve game for hunters, Kevin Gofron’s statement rings true: this breed is an ideal “fetch” dog.
As an avid sport fisherman, Kevin Gofron can definitely appreciate a dog that loves the water. For Kevin Gofron, a dog that can come along and enjoy a bass fishing trip is an ideal dog.
